From Siberia to Sheffield, LEVIATHAN director presents stunning career retrospective at the Showroom.
Showroom cinema announces a full retrospective of the work of multi-award winning Russian filmmaker Andrey Zvyagintsev and are delighted to welcome Zvyagintsev for a special preview screening and Q&A of his latest masterpiece, Loveless, on Wednesday 31st January
From the release of his award-winning debut film, The Return (2003), Andrey Zvyagintsev has established himself as one of the most exciting directors of his generation. From brutal concrete cityscapes to the idyllic countryside, Zvyagintsev’s minimalist style unearths moral and psychological tensions, delving into complex family dynamics which explore themes of power and patriotism in contemporary Russia.
Loveless in Modern Russia – The work of Andrey Zvyagintsev takes a look back at Zvyagintsev’s staggering career and covers all four of his feature films including Leviathan(2014), which won Best Screenplay at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, The Banishment(2007), Elena (2010) and The Return (2003). His latest film, Loveless, which is on general release in February, has already won the Grand Jury prize at Cannes Film Festival and is hotly tipped to win Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards this year.
Showroom Chief Executive Ian Wild says:
“Andrey Zvyagintsev is one of the most influential and critically acclaimed filmmakers in the world, and it is a genuine honour for us to welcome him to The Showroom. Russia is a vast country with many stories to tell and Zvyagintsev’s films are often allegories for modern Russian life and politics.”
Loveless in Modern Russia opens on Sunday 28 January with Leviathan and runs until Thursday 8 February. Tickets are priced at £8.80 / £6.60 concessions and £4.50 for everyone aged 26 and under with CINE 26 Membership, and are available from the Showroom Box Office or online at https://www.showroomworkstation.org.uk/loveless-in-russia.
