Tom explores the hidden relationship between creativity and operations and why the practical side of an experience shapes how people feel just as much as the creative itself.
His work across film, live entertainment and audience experiences has led to one core belief: production is creative. The atmosphere on set, the rhythm of a production, the morale of a crew, the timing, pacing and hundreds of practical decisions behind the scenes all shape how something ultimately feels on screen.

More about the New 2026 Directions Masterclasses and Workshops
A series of six masterclasses will be delivered in 2026, sponsored by Steel Arts Software: thanks to them, the Directions masterclasses are back!
These will be free to SYFN members. Our first took place on 30th January with Labor of Love Films, a documentary masterclass that was excellent.
Our next events will soon be announced, with workshops and masterclasses from Line Producer Tom Tucker (10th July), and in the autumn we will be welcoming a TV commercials director to do a masterclass, and more awesome speakers.
In terms of the SYMCA-funded workshops, we will hopefully be re-launching them again in the latter half of 2026/early 2027.

What are the 'Directions' masterclasses?
