Events & Competitions
SYFN host events like monthly screenings of short films, free networking meetings for filmmakers and competitions like '2Weeks 2Make It'. Check this section out to see what is happening every month and how you can get involved and be a part of it.
Our monthly 'Showroom Shorts' film screenings are free to attend and happen almost every month at the Showroom Cinema in Sheffield. We also hold the 'Shooters in the Pub' networking meetings, which are friendly, no-rules events. They are also free and happen almost every first Wednesday of the month at the Triple Point Brewery in Sheffield.
Keep yourself in the loop by signing up to our weekly newsletter! Learn more about all of these events by clicking on the relevant box right here on this page!

We bring you the best short films that are made in the local area, as well as award-winning and interesting content from further afield. Its free to attend, so come down and join us! Click the link below for the latest screening coming up!
Shooters In The Pub
Want to meet more local, like-minded filmmakers and grab a free drink in the process? Well look no further - this is the place to come!
Shooters in the Pub is a friendly, no-rules kind of event - nothing but good chat, a few drinks and good ol' networking.
We always meet on the first Wednesday of each month: check it out!
'Made In....'
We've been putting events on in other cities in South Yorkshire.
Our Doncaster screening and networking event featuring work by Doncaster filmmakers was a big success.
We'll be doing more of these. Keep your eyes peeled here or on our weekly e-bulletin! You can sign up to the bulletin on the bottom of this page!
2 Weeks 2 Make it
A competition where filmmakers and musicians and/or independent business owners are paired together to make a film in two weeks, from start to finish, without knowing each other - and being paired together at random! It sounds like a challenge but it REALLY works. The competition has run 12 times since 2005 and it's lots of fun!
Interested in participating? Keep your eyes peeled as we will update you when we run this again. Stay on top of things by signing up for our newsletter!

We've had film festival directors, massive TV directors, award-winning feature film directors, classes on networking, producing, making award-winning short films, writing, editing, lighting, casting, animation, camera operation and more!
These masterclasses will be running again in 2026. You can attend these classes if you are a member of the SYFN - so be sure to join now!
